Rowena Murray’s Thesis Writing Workshop 2019

This is a practical workshop, involving writing activities and writing time. Topics covered include writing to prompts, analysing academic writing, strategies for generating text, outlining, social writing, making time to write, constructing a ‘contribution’ argument, writing a 750-word thesis summary and building a repertoire of strategies for thesis writing (also relevant for journal article writing). This course runs over three days (2 nights), and the cost covers fee, accommodation, meals and snacks and access to leisure facilities at the venue. Email to book: r.e.g.murray@btinternet.com

Rowena Murray’s Preparing for your PhD Viva Workshop 2019

  • For students in the final year of their PhD
  • 20 November 5pm-22 November 4pm
  • At Bowfield Hotel, Howwood
  • Cost £360
  • Limited to 15 participants

 

This workshop covers definitions, purposes, criteria, examiners’ reports, roles and responsibilities, 'originality', outcomes and appeals. In addition, it covers the key topics of (1) types of question regularly asked in PhD Vivas and (2) strategies for answering them. This workshop includes time to practise these strategies and to adapt them for individual PhD Vivas. Throughout the workshop, I will address participants’ questions about the PhD examination.
